Alligators
I don't know if they're still there or not, but El Paso used to have
an alligator pond in the downtown park, with several very large
alligators in it. El Paso is in the desert, in case you didn't know,
so these animals were quite a curiosity already ... but in the winter
we frequently got snow, there being nothing to block the wind but
barbed wire fences between the Rio Grande and the North Pole ... and
the poor alligators would get covered with it. I felt sorry for them.
