The Shaggy Dog Story
That was the joke. There is a peculiarly American form of folk humor called
the Shaggy Dog Story. It is a story that goes on and on and on and on ...
the longer you can keep your audience interested, the better, so there is
skill involved. Finally, just at the moment when everybody is expcting the
climax of the story, it ends with something completely ridiculous ... often
a pun.
The name comes from an old story about a very shaggy dog.
I m afraid I would get killed if I told one of those here.
